Coral Reef Craft Using Egg Cartons

Create your own underwater world by making a colorful coral reef using recycled materials!

Materials Needed:

• Empty egg carton

• Pipe cleaners (various colors)

• Beads

• Tissue paper (blue, green, or any ocean colors)

• Paint (blue, green, pink, yellow, etc.)

• Paintbrushes

• Scissors

• Glue

• Tape

• Colored paper or printable fish cutouts

• Markers or crayons

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Egg Carton Base

1. Cut the lid off an empty egg carton, leaving the bottom tray intact.

2. Paint the egg carton in shades of blue, green, or sandy tones to resemble an ocean floor.

3. Let it dry completely.

Step 2: Create the Coral

1. Twist and bend pipe cleaners into coral-like shapes, making loops and zigzags.

2. Thread beads onto the pipe cleaners to add texture and detail.

3. Poke the pipe cleaners through the egg carton cups and secure them with tape or glue underneath.

Step 3: Add Tissue Paper for Texture

1. Tear or crumple small pieces of tissue paper.

2. Glue them around the base to resemble seaweed and coral growths.

3. Layer different shades to create depth.

Step 4: Make the Fish and Sea Creatures

1. Draw and color fish, sea stars, and other ocean animals on colored paper. Alternatively, use printable cutouts.

2. Cut them out carefully.

3. Tape them onto pipe cleaners so they appear to be swimming among the coral.

Step 5: Assemble the Reef Scene

1. Arrange all elements, adjusting pipe cleaner corals and tissue paper until you love the design.

2. If needed, glue some pieces in place to secure the structure.

3. Let everything dry before moving it.
